POSITION SUMMARY

ARDI is seeking School Light Rehabilitation Specialists based in AlRaqqa to support ARDI’s school light rehabilitation efforts within public school facilities to rehabilitate key accessibility, safety, and functionality issues impacting students with disabilities. The selected School Light Rehabilitation Specialists will focus on ensuring that all students, including those with disabilities, have equal access to educational facilities and a safe learning environment. The roles will be responsible for planning and implementing technical improvements and rehabilitation efforts and will collaborate with various local stakeholders, conduct technical assessments, design technical improvement plans and implementation efforts, including budgeting and purchasing, technical project scheduling, designing light rehabilitation technical plans, overseeing/conducting direct light rehabilitation efforts using engineering and construction techniques, and ensuring alignment with internationally recognized standards on facility accessibility to benefit students with disabilities. These positions will work directly on school facility worksites and within the ARDI office in AlRaqqa. Your expertise and dedication as a School Light Rehabilitation Specialist will contribute significantly to creating an inclusive and safe learning environment for all students in Northeastern Syria, fostering their educational opportunities and overall well-being.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The primary duties and responsibilities of the School Light Rehabilitation Specialists include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Assess School Facilities: Conduct thorough assessments of public school buildings in Northeastern Syria to identify areas requiring light rehabilitation and technical improvements for enhanced accessibility and safety.
  • Technical Planning and Design: Provide technical expertise and support in the planning and design stages of rehabilitation projects, ensuring compliance with safety standards and industry regulations.
  • Resource Allocation: Allocate necessary resources, including materials, equipment, and personnel, to each stage of the rehabilitation projects.
  • Collaboration and Liaison: Work closely with contractors, subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers to ensure the smooth execution of rehabilitation projects and timely completion.
  • Compliance and Safety: Oversee construction engineering processes and ensure that all rehabilitation activities adhere to safety protocols and the "Do no harm" principle.
  • Cost Calculations and Budgeting: Perform cost calculations, prepare financial projections, and develop budgets for rehabilitation projects to ensure cost-effectiveness.
  • Documentation: Maintain detailed construction logs, document processes, and provide regular progress updates to clients and senior management.
  • Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor the progress and impact of rehabilitation efforts, conduct tests on materials and procedures, and make necessary adjustments for improved efficiency.
  • Training and Capacity Building: Collaborate with school staff, local communities, and stakeholders to build their capacity in maintaining and utilizing rehabilitated facilities.
  • Other relevant tasks as required. 

 

EDUCATION, TECHNICAL SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or construction and/or other relevant fields of study. 
  • 5+ years of experience in engineering, construction, and/or other relevant fields of work.
  • Fluent English and Arabic speaking and writing skills are required.
  • Dynamic self-starter who thrives off of tackling complex challenges, identifying strategic solutions, and has the ability to collaborate well with diverse teams in both distance-based and in-person environments.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to cultivate productive relationships with diverse colleagues and stakeholders and work collaboratively with diverse groups of people.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google.
  • Strong critical thinking, passion for excellence, and personal integrity.
